Which Should I Choose?
Choose App Store if you...
- Need to comply with corporate IT policy
- Want the confidence of Apple's review process
- Prefer one-click install and automatic updates
Choose DMG if you...
- Want new features first (no App Store review delay)
- Prefer faster performance (no sandbox overhead)
- Like simpler first-run setup (no permission wizard)
Or run your own cloud server
Personal Self-Hosted lets you run the Contextify Cloud server software on infrastructure you operate: a Mac mini, a Linux box, or a private tailnet host. Supported clients connect to your server instead of cloud.contextify.sh; no Contextify-operated server receives your transcript data. Windows x64 and ARM64 are supported clients. Distributed under the Functional Source License, Version 1.1, Apache 2.0 Future License (FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0); internal organizational use permitted, with each release converting automatically to the Apache License 2.0 on its second anniversary.
Personal Self-Hosted is a peer deployment shape, not a separate client distribution. Choose a supported client above, then point it at the server you operate.
